Our Journey Through Time

More than half a century ago, we embarked on a journey that would transform a simple sausage company into a lasting legacy, establishing Sheboygan, Wisconsin as the world-renowned "Bratwurst Capital." Renowned for its robust German heritage, Sheboygan has always valued a strong work ethic and a tradition of exceptional sausage-making. This rich foundation is what Old Wisconsin is built upon, and it is evident today in our commitment to quality and our meticulous, handcrafted sausage-making process.

The Beginning in 1942

The year 1942 marked the inception of our story in Sheboygan—a location ideally suited for sausage production, thanks to its unique climate along the shores of Lake Michigan. The venture started as Thielmann’s, a modest sausage shop founded by Frank Thielmann and William Stolzman. Many of the high-quality sausage recipes from those early days remain integral to our offerings. As demand surged for our products, we established our first production plant in 1953 and soon rebranded ourselves as Thielmann’s Old Wisconsin Sausage Company.

Unleashing Our Full Potential

A significant turning point occurred in 1976, when we acquired Rammer Sausage Company, based in Sheboygan, effectively more than doubling our production capabilities. Our commitment to quality caught the attention of Carl Buddig, a family-owned meat processing company, which purchased Old Wisconsin in 1981. This acquisition not only expanded our distribution but also led to a name change to Old Wisconsin Sausage Company. By 1996, we took another leap forward by launching a modern, state-of-the-art production facility, enabling us to double production once again while maintaining our premium quality standards.
